Family member in jail?

The Importance of Hiring the Right Lawyer

Realistically, there are many reasons that you want a good lawyer on your side. The law can be complex and  having sound legal advice and good representation is critical. Not just because you don’t want to spend time in jail. Lawyers can help in a variety of different situations, although if you watch TV you might think the only thing they do is help criminals get out of jail. But there are a variety of different functions lawyers perform. Hire the right Lawyer

Personal Injury Lawyer

A personal injury lawyer is a lawyer who provides legal representation to those who have been injured, physically or psychologically, as a result of the negligence or wrongdoing of another person, company, government agency, or other entity. This could be related to a car accident, landlord negligence, or employer negligence. You can not sue someone just because you have been injured you must also prove that your injury was the result of someone not exercising reasonable caution. To prove this you will need the assistance of a good lawyer. Many personal injury lawyers will accept cases on a contingency fee, i.e. they will work for free and only get paid if they win your case. Of course, if they win they will receive a percentage of the settlement.

Family Lawyer

Although the term “family lawyer” can apply to any lawyer your family has retained, as in “he is the family lawyer”, in most cases it refers to a lawyer that practices “family law” such as marriage, divorce, adoption, paternity, alimony and even child abuse.

So what makes a great family lawyer? First and foremost, being available. Being able to make a phone call to set up a meeting can make or break the usefulness of a good lawyer. Good lawyers always have a maximum time frame in which calls are returned, usually within twenty-four hours. If your lawyer is available to help, you can start moving forward.

Estate lawyer

Your estate is your net worth i.e. everything you own from houses to cars, bank accounts, etc. It is the sum of a person’s assets – legal rights, interests and entitlements to property of any kind – less all liabilities at that time. A good estate lawyer can help you to prepare a will that will minimize your estate taxes and transfer your assets to your heirs in the manner that you feel is best. He can also handle the probate of your estate and after you die to assist your heirs in getting what the will says they should.

Real Estate Lawyer

Don’t confuse a real estate lawyer with an estate lawyer. A real estate lawyer helps you to handle the paperwork involved in buying or selling real estate. He makes sure all the paperwork is in order and that your title to the property is clear. No one want to buy a house and find out that the person they bought the house from wasn’t the real owner or that there was a lien against the house or that an oil company has drilling rights in your back yard. A real estate lawyer can also help ensure that your mortgage is handled properly and that the real estate transaction runs smoothly.

Bankruptcy Lawyer

Bankruptcy is a legal status of a person who cannot repay the debts he owes to creditors. In most jurisdictions, bankruptcy is imposed by a court order, often initiated by the debtor. It is generally wise to seek the assistance of a bankruptcy lawyer to assist in the filing process so that you do it properly. Bankruptcy fraud is a white-collar crime and could involve concealment of assets, concealment or destruction of documents, conflicts of interest, fraudulent claims, false statements or redistribution arrangements. Falsifications on bankruptcy forms often constitute perjury. You don’t want to do any of these things accidentally so having a good bankruptcy lawyer can help you do it properly.

Criminal Lawyer

A criminal lawyer is the type we see on TV they will represent you if you break a law. A criminal lawyer should be comfortable representing your family member in court and in negotiations. You do not want someone who will roll over for a plea bargain whenever it is offered, nor do you want a lawyer who is only concerned about winning. Finding an attorney who will keep your family’s needs in mind when it comes time to argue a case is a good way to make sure that your loved one’s best interests are being put forward.

Other Types of Lawyers

Practicing law is a very specialized profession there are many other types of lawyers, other than those mentioned here. It is important to be sure that you hire one that is experienced in the type of case that you have.
