5 Tips: Save Money on Simple Home Improvement Projects

Simple Home Improvement Projects

As summer approaches, and the sun starts to show its face a little more often, we’re all thinking of ways to get our homes in tip-top condition. We want to make the most of our homes during the summer months and that normally means we need to carry out some home improvements. Whether you are planning to completely transform your home, or want a quick and simple makeover, these 5 top tips will show you how to do it, without spending a fortune.

1. Don’t Pay for Advice on Simple Home Improvement Projects

Carrying out home improvements can seem daunting without the advice of a trade professional. However, just because you aren’t employing a professional to do the work doesn’t mean you can’t get professional advice. The internet is full of useful information which is written by trade professionals – and it’s FREE! Simply search for things like ‘Simple Home Improvement Projects’ and you will find countless websites full of the advice you need. If you want a video of professionals teaching you how to do most simple home improvement projects check YouTube. Along with telling you how to do it right they will often tell you how to save money in the process.

2. Look Harder! There is Always a Less Expensive Alternative

Perhaps you’ve decided that you want to invest in a new outdoor furniture set, or a new kitchen, either way, the more research you do, the better. It’s only too easy to get carried away with the image you have in your head, and this often ends up with you laying out more money than you should, when you come across the first thing that matches with that image.

Simply take note of what you like, and continue to search for those features at a lower price. In essence, make sure your research is thorough and that you don’t let yourself get carried away. It’s truly amazing how much money you can save by not going with the first provider you find.

3. Simple  Home Improvements= Huge Benefits and Huge Savings.

It’s natural to want to upgrade and freshen-up your home, but it’s important to consider exactly what you’re trying to do before you go spending all of your money on refitting every single room in the house. Often, what we’re really trying to do (but just don’t really realize), is freshen things up a little. And to do this, you don’t need to spend a fortune. In fact, simple changes, like painting your walls a new color, or replacing your rugs, will give your home that fresh feeling you are craving. Before you go buying new bathrooms, or kitchens, consider some of the simple, less expensive home improvements that could also satisfy your desire for change without breaking the bank.

4. Friends. They’ll be There for You!

As you grow older (and wiser), you meet all kinds of different people, from all walks of life. Along with this, and the ‘6 degrees of separation’, it’s likely that you already know somebody who knows somebody, that could help you with your home improvement project. Often you can enlist friends help in your project and make it a fun event… perhaps all the payment that’s necessary is a few pizzas. But even if you have to pay these people, it’s more than likely that you’ll save money, simply because of the fact that you have mutual friends.

5. Simple Features that Look Great and Save You Money

It’s important that you make changes that you will be happy with for a long period of time. If, for example, you buy cheap products that don’t last, you’ll end up spending more money in the long run. It’s also worth investing in upgrades that will save you money on everyday living costs. For example, investing in a new set of windows and a new front door could drastically cut your heating bills/cooling bills, as well as give your home a refreshing uplift. A well known study by CNN stated that you could see an “average return of 90 percent on your investment if you replace your windows and doors”. There really isn’t any better way to spend your money than investing it in features that will look good and save you long-term money.
