3 Things You Shouldn’t Buy When Improving Your Bathroom

Your bathroom improvement project will be time consuming enough without having to do it all over again. In order to make the right choices for your bathroom remodeling project, you need to plan ahead. By planning it all out, you’ll ensure that you get the new bathroom you’ll love for years to come. You also need to avoid some common mistakes that people tend to make. Having to redo your new bathroom again can be a big waste of your hard earned money. Here are three things you should make sure not to buy when doing your bathroom remodeling project.

Water Wasters

Your family’s finances can be seriously affected by bathroom fixtures that use a lot of water. Wasting water is not only bad for the environment; it’s bad for your monthly water bill. That’s why it’s very important never to buy new bathroom fixtures that aren’t water-efficient. Some of the latest trends may look great, but if they waste water, it’s really not worth it. One of these trendy non-water-efficient fixtures is the shower towers with those his-and-hers showerheads and enticing body sprays. They are not WaterSense-qualified or water-efficient fixtures.

They also cost more to install. In most cases, your existing plumbing lines and bathtub/shower drain will need to be upgraded. This can make the cost of your bathroom improvement increase by hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars. And, if the bathroom fixtures are really thirsty, you may have to get an upgrade water heater too. Some require that your water heater have at least an 80-gallon capacity. Now, you’re looking at another $1,000-$2,000 added to your bathroom remodeling budget.

A Small Mirror

The bathroom mirror is used to help us groom ourselves. We use it to brush our teeth, wash our faces, comb our hair, shave and put on makeup. For many people, the bathroom mirror is where we take our final look at ourselves after showering and getting dressed. Having one small mirror in your bathroom is counterproductive. It may be easy for you to hop out of the shower and go use the big mirror in your bedroom. But, what about your guests? They don’t have that option.

Even in a public bathroom, we all feel the need to check ourselves in the mirror before we walk out of the door. That same concept goes for people who use your bathroom. Everyone wants to check their hair, teeth, face, even wipe the sweat from their foreheads before they walk back out into the rest of your home. Make sure to install a nice, big mirror in your bathroom for grooming purposes. Plus, big mirrors make rooms look larger. Making your bathroom look larger is a great tip for improving your bathroom.

Space Hogs

Many bathrooms are small enough even when they’re gutted out. It’s much easier to dry off after a nice hot shower or bath when you have room to move around. Plus, there are times when people have to actually get dressed in the bathroom. Don’t fill it with a bunch of fixtures and stuff that hog all the space. Allow your bathroom to be as roomy as possible. You’ll enjoy it much more that way.
