Add Flare to Your Wedding (On a Budget)

Weddings on a Budget-

So, you’ve met the person of your dreams and are trying to plan your wedding. Congratulations are in order, but unfortunately, you also have to face the fact that you’re getting married in a time when the economy is the worst it has been in years. If you’re like most of us, you don’t have a lot of money to throw around during this time, but that doesn’t mean you have to skimp on your special day. No, it just means you have to find some creative and inexpensive ways of getting things done and still stay within your wedding budget, and we’ve got some wonderful ideas for you!

Add a Personal Touch

wedding invitationOne of the first things brides (and grooms!) to be thinking about are the invitations. Most are very surprised when they find out just how costly these little cards and envelopes can be. There’s really no need to spend a fortune on something you can make yourself, however! If you’re got a creative flair or know someone who does, whip out your drawing utensils or your favorite photograph and create custom, handmade invitations. If this isn’t feasible because of the number of people in your wedding party, try creating just one card. There are many printers that will, for very affordable prices, duplicate your design as many times as you need!

Eat Your Heart Out

Wedding cakes can cost hundreds of dollars—pretty pricey for something that is going to be devoured within moments of touching the table. This is definitely one area in which you can cut some corners in your wedding budget without making it any less charming. You always have the option, of course, of making the cake yourself—there are some really great kits out there that can enable even the most hopeless baker to churn out a lovely dessert. If you’re not up to that challenge, though, you might consider going to an economy bakery; many grocery and discount stores have their own versions, and you’ll spend a lot less than you would at that fancy, upscale eatery. Or, opt for an adorable cupcake cake, which costs less and is very in fashion right now.

Take it to the Beach

Depending upon where you live, you might be able to “book” your wedding venue absolutely free of charge. Many beach states allow weddings to be held on public beaches without a permit or any kind of booking fee. The only catch is that there’s no guarantee that beachcombers and swimmers won’t be hanging out nearby. If you don’t mind an onlooker or two, then by all means go for it! This rule applies to lots of other public, outdoor areas, like mountains and parks as well, so find a cool venue and check to see if you can host your dream wedding at no cost to you.

Grow a Garden

Flowers are another huge wedding expense, an expense that is literally going to wilt and die right before your very eyes. There’s really no point in paying big bucks to the florist. If you plan far enough in advance and can green-up your thumb, you can plant your very own wedding bouquet. Add in some fancy, prettily colored string and ribbon, and you’ll have an affordable arrangement of all your favorite flowers. Plus, you’ll feel good knowing you’ve contributed to your special day in this meaningful way.
